Notes
It was established 1997 with 6 voice students and grew to almost 120, and still growing!

Ever since her college years in the Philippines, Ann-Marie has dreamt of owning her own music school. Having taught in the Philippines and Singapore, she never imagined that she would make this dream a reality. She believes that every person has a special gift and if anyone loves to sing, then this could be developed.
As she moved to the US in 1996 with her husband Lewis, she begun to work towards this goal. So, in 1997, she started teaching voice in a one-bedroom apartment in Sunnyvale, CA as their first child, Lance watches or sleeps in the background. She only started with 5 students.
After a year, the family moved to San Jose, CA and Bytes and Notes was born. A close-friend helped with the idea of the name. Since Lewis is an engineer and cannot live without computers, Bytes was such a perfect name. And of course, Notes is for Ann-Marie's love for music. As they owned their first home and when they second child, Liam was born, the business grew and expanded with more students and added acting workshops and piano classes. Some of the students are still with us up to this day. They are grateful that not only did they develop the student's talents, but developed deep friendships as well.
They started with mini-recitals and fundraising concerts in the first few years of Bytes and Notes. They also want to let their students have different experiences to share their God-given talent thus they also sing in schools, churches, nursing homes, libraries and hotels for different functions. Some of the students have their own shows and events to boast for like Broadway shows and their own concerts.
In 2000, they begun to have Grand Recitals It is time for these students to perform in a bigger scale with a bigger audience. Hence, they had group classes to work towards that goal. Everyone worked to prepare for big productions every-other-year with a different theme each time. They call it a Grand Recital but it is really a concert where the students sing, dance and act at the same time. Year after year, the students look forward to this show. Lucas Tecson was only three years old when he also joined these event. Bytes and Notes is proud to be a family-oriented music studio that our parents and siblings join in contributing their talents and time for the purpose of our big events.
The goal is not only to develop singers but to develop self-esteem and to understand that each performer is special and unique (and not one is better than the other). It is great to see and experience that amongst our students during shows when they all work together and give each other the moral support one needs when they perform on-stage; friendships and camaraderie when they sing group songs as well. We do not have competition among our students. Each voice is needed to make our concert a successful one.
Two years ago, we added more teachers to Bytes and Notes. We now offer voice, piano, guitar, group classes (year-round) and have Dance and Theatre classes during the summer. We welcome students from all walks of life and different ages.
Aside from that, we our now developing the "Bytes" side of Bytes and Notes. Lewis Tecson is the technical director of all our shows and recitals. He does IT consulting services to small businesses all over the Bay Area and now expanding territories.
The Tecson family always thank God for the blessings that they receive, thankful to the parents who have entrusted their children to us and for the friendships that we develop through their home-based business. It is indeed Ann-Marie's destiny to teach music, to share the talent that our Creator has given her, music is their life and it’s worth the time and effort of doing it everyday!
